How many visits to expect

  1. First consultation, from home if you likeYou can start with a virtual consultation with your consultant plastic surgeon, followed by an in-person assessment at Waterfront Private Hospital before any surgery. Or come in for your first consultation; it costs £200. If a further consultation would help you decide, it is offered at no extra charge.
  2. Pre-operative assessmentMostly by phone, with a short health questionnaire beforehand. Tests are arranged only if you need them.
  3. The day of surgeryWaterfront is a day-surgery hospital. You arrive about an hour before your operation and go home the same day.
  4. Follow-upNurse check-ups and appointments with your surgeon are included for 12 months. How many you need depends on your procedure, and your surgeon will plan them with you. If you live far away, some follow-up can be done remotely when that is appropriate.

Day-case surgery and staying nearby

Most procedures are performed as day cases, and the few operations that need an overnight stay are done at a partner hospital in Edinburgh.

After a general anaesthetic, a responsible adult needs to take you home and stay with you overnight. A taxi or their car is fine; public transport is not. If home is a long drive away, ask your surgeon at your consultation whether to stay in Edinburgh the night after your operation; there are hotels within a ten-minute drive, and our team can suggest options when you book.

I made an initial consultation with Mr Kazem Nassar booking on line which was very easy. I found Kazem to be very friendly and approachable. At the consultation it was confirmed that I most likely had a basal cell carcinoma on my chest. The treatment options were fully explained to me and I made an appointment to have it removed a week later. It was removed yesterday and I found it to be a totally painless experience. Kazem ensured the area was totally numb before proceedinding and I was totally at ease throughout.
The staff are all extremely welcoming and friendly and the facitities are very modern and spotless.
I have had no pain since.
I would recommend the Waterfront to anyone without hesitation and I drove down from Aberdeen to have the surgery.

Dr Aldridge was very accommodating as I had to travel from quite a distance. The treatment I had was quick and easy with minimal scarring and I was happy with the results.
