Quaba Plastic Surgery

Consultation

Cosmetic surgery is self-demanded and self-judged. It focuses on happiness rather than healing. It is vital that anyone considering cosmetic surgery is clear about what they want to achieve and the limitations involved.

Our approach

Our consultations take place at our new state-of-the-art Waterfront Private Hospital in Edinburgh. We also consult at the Edinburgh Spire Shawfair Park Hospital. The consultation is a central part of the doctor-patient relationship. It will ultimately determine whether you wish to proceed with any recommended surgery or treatment.

We’ll go over your main concerns and expectations. Any relevant past or ongoing medical history must be noted, as this may have implications for surgery and expected results. We will carry out an examination and will discuss all treatment options with you.

Exploring your concerns

During the consultation, we will explore your concerns and the impact they may or may not be having on you. We will discuss the background to these concerns and any relevant past medical history.

We will examine you with a chaperone present when appropriate. Photographs are usually taken as part of the consultation and these form an essential part of your medical record. They are also useful to look back on following any surgery.

Discussing your options

Following the examination, we will let you know your options, including any non-surgical options which may be available.

If surgery is an option, we will inform you about the procedure(s), risks and complications, long-term impact and the possibility of revisional surgery.

You will be shown a range of before and after photographs of any proposed treatments during your consultation.

We may advise that surgery is not needed or may not be in your best interests. This might be because there is a more effective non-surgical treatment, or it might be because we feel we cannot meet your expectations. This can occur when there is minimal deformity present or when expectations are unrealistic. There may be other good reasons not to move forward with surgery, such as a recent major life event (such as relationship difficulties, grief, divorce, financial difficulty or conflicts at work) or predisposing medical conditions that may increase your risk of complications or a poor outcome.

You are welcome to bring a friend or family member with you.

Giving you time to consider

We also recommend a period to think things over (typically a two-week ‘cooling off’ period) and a second consultation is always available free of charge.

BAPRAS has a useful cosmetic surgery checklist which summarises essential points you should consider when thinking about cosmetic surgery – the 5 C’s – we highly recommend that you take a look at it.
